All successful people on the planet called earth has a daily habit of writing a 'To-Do List'.A simple task of noting the task to do on that day has a big impact on your subconscious mind. It stops your mind to wander from places to places and gives ability to focus on your task. It also gives you an idea on how your day will look and you can easily forge your time according to tasks you want to complete.
Many people find it difficult to prepare To-Do list. I've been preparing To-Do List for a year now and initially I faced that difficulty too. You don't have to fill up the whole page with small and big tasks. You just have to determine what tasks you are supposed to do and how many out of them you can do in the available time you have. Simple! I have some tips that you can use to prepare a productive To-Do List.
1. 3 Long Term Habits
If you want to establish a new habits you can do that here. I always add 3 habits which I want to establish in my To-Do List. This helps me to form that habits faster. For example, you can give a place in your To-Do List for Workout, Calling an old friend each day or Meditating for 5 minutes. This may look small effort but it is very effective. Writing this in To-Do List will force yourself to do that task and move forward. Always try to do big tasks in the morning.
2. 1 Big Tasks
Write a big task in your To-Do List. Only one big task. Writing more than one will make you feel pressurized and make you lazy, because it is very hard to do big tasks. For example, if you want to write a book, it is your big task, going out for movie with family may be the big task if you have hectic schedule.
3. 3 Medium Tasks
3 Medium tasks are the optimum for productive day. Reading 10 pages of book or preparing monthly schedule or budgeting is medium task. This also helps forming new habits and these are the tasks which makes our day. Focusing on this task is essential for each and every individual.
4. 5 Short Tasks
Short or Small tasks are the tasks which hardly takes more than 5 minutes. Washing you plate after meal is short task, writing a 'Thank You' letter is small task. You can do as much small task as you want. These tasks can be done between other tasks.
Additional Tips
Do Scheduling
When You are done with your To-Do, plan your day according to your tasks. Schedule your day. Use apps for that. Google Calendar is which I use and highly recommend others to do.
Deadlines
Use deadlines for your tasks, otherwise we have tendency to do things at very last moment. Use dead lines like Call Mike before 2p.m. This will help you to get your things done and save you some time too.
Do Not Over Do
Do not over write in your list. Initially we all have habit to do maximum work, so we write so many tasks in list that are never gonna happen. For first few days observe how much work you can do. And than do your listing accordingly.
